The City of Montclair Human Services Division is hosting various seminars and events.

Learn about arthritis, causes, signs and symptons and treatments. A FREE lunch will be provided for those 60+ who RSVP by noon on February 1.

Once a month a FREE movie will be shown in the Senior Center at 1:00 p..m.

Dance Classes

Needlecraft & Scrapbooking

A weekly get together where you can learn how to crochet, knit, and cross stitch and do scrapbooking. This group meets at the Montclair Senior Center. Instructions are free; just bring your own supplies and your desire to create!

Join our walking family every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:00 a.m. at the south side of the Montclair Plaza near Barnes & Noble Bookstore for stretching exercises before you start your walking. We walk until about 10:10 a.m. Call the Senior Citizens office for information on trips.

Senior Services

Join The Montclair Senior Citizens Club!

Come be a member of this growing club. Membership is for persons over the age of 50 and the cost is $8 per year. The membership is from April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2013. With your membership, you will be mailed a monthly newsletter of all the upcoming events and programs. For more information or questions, please call (909) 625-9462 or (909) 625-9456.

Bicycle Licensing

Bicycle licenses are available and may be purchased at the Montclair City Hall.

Bilingual Volunteer Program

Individuals are needed who are fluent in reading, writing, and understanding in both Spanish and English. Please call (909) 625-9462.

Braille Institute Mobile Solutions

A FREE seminar will be presented by the Braille Institute on Thursday, July 7 and 14, 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. The presentation will cover "Understanding Vision Loss/Orientation & Mobility" and "Staying Connected Through Computer". A FREE lunch will be provided to anyone over the age of 60 who RSVP's before Tuesday, June 28 by calling 625-9483.


Counseling and Case Management

West End Family Counseling Service's Older Adult Community Services Program provides free counseling and case management services to adults 60 years and older who meet the requirements for Early Intervention and Prevention Services. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please contact Denise Christensen LCSW at (909) 983-2020 ext. 2231 for more information. These services are funded through the Mental Health Services Act.

File of Life Program

The "File of Life" is a magnetic pocket holder that contains an information sheet with all your recent medical history. It attaches to the outside of your refrigerator and assists emergency personnel who may come to your home during an emergency. "File of Life" is free at the Montclair Senior Center.

Food Commodity Program

The Human Services Division provides free food commodities to qualified Montclair residents, 18 years of age and older on the third Thursday of each month 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The program is coordinated with the Community Services Department of San Bernardino County. Residents must qualify by income, and must bring proof of income and residency. Commodities to be given may include canned meat, canned vegetables, flour, corn meal, peanut butter, butter, and juices. To qualify you must be a Montclair resident. Healthy Families

Program provides low-cost insurance (complete medical, dental, and vision) for children. For more information please call (909) 625-9462.

HICAP Insurance Counseling

A state trained HICAP counselor is available free of charge to assist with problems regarding Medicare, HMO's Supplemental (Medi-Gap) Insurance and interpreting Long-term Care Insurance policies. This program is offered the 3rd Thursday of the month from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Call HICAP at (951) 241-8723 or 1-800-434-0222 for an appointment.

Magnifying Equipment

The City of Montclair has magnifying equipment available for use by anyone who is visually challenged. Using this aid you are able to read and write your own letters, bills, and cards. It's a free service. Call the Senior Citizens office at (909) 625-9456.


Mature Drivers 55 Alive Classes

A representative of AARP will conduct a two-day 55 Alive driving course. If you are 50 years of age or older and you take this course, you may receive a discount on your car insurance. Class fee is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. You must pre-register. Class will be held in the Senior Center. Meals on Wheels

This program is designed for the frail, disabled senior citizen who is homebound. For more information, please call the Senior Citizens office at (909) 625-9456.


Montclair Walking Program

Join our walking family every Mon, Wed and Fri at 9:00 am at the southside of the Montclair Plaza near Barnes & Noble Bookstore for early stretching exercises before you go up to the second floor to start your walking.We walk until about 10:10 am. For information on the Walking Program trips, please call the Senior Center at 625-9483.

Legal Assistance

Inland Counties Legal Services provides assistance with legal matters for seniors, age 60 and over, who are residents of San Bernardino County. Call Inland Counties Legal Services at (800) 977-4257 for legal assistance.

Peer Counseling

Senior Peer Counselors willing to listen and may help you sort out problems. AgeWise is a program brought to you free of charge by the San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health. For more information, call the Senior Citizens office at (909) 625-9462 or call AgeWise at (800) 451-5633.

Senior Nutrition Program

Montclair Senior Center, Daily: Monday-Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Suggested donation for seniors 60+ is $1.75. Birthday celebration dates require you to purchase a ticket at the nutrition site at least a week prior to the party. For more information call site manager Patti Pennington at (909) 625-9488. Cost is $2.50 per person 60+ years.

Funding for the nutrition program is provided by the City of Montclair and the San Bernardino County Department of Aging and Adult Services through a grant award from the California Department of Aging.

Senior Transportation

This transportation program provides curb-to-curb service for senior citizens age 60 and older who are Montclair residents. The service includes transportation to the Senior Center and general errands within Montclair city limits. Service outside Montclair is limited to medical appointments only. This program is made available through funding from the City of Montclair, San Bernardino County Department of Aging and Adult Servies, and the San Bernardino County Economic Development Department. Hours of operations: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. For information or appointment call the Transportation Coordinator at (909) 625-9452.


There's a Counselor in the House

Denise Christensen, Ph.D., L.C.S.W., from West End Family Counseling Services is available by appointment for a free counseling consultation with seniors who may be experiencing problems related to life changes, family issues, depression or anxiety. If interested, please call to schedule an appointment at (909) 983-2020 ext. 231. The visit is free. Call for your appointment today.

Trash Service Discount

Senior Citizens, 65 years of age and older who pay their own trash service, are eligible to receive a 15 percent discount on their bills. The City of Montclair is offering this discount to residents of the City who file an application with the Finance Department. The only documentation required for the discount is proof of age. Applications may be obtained from the Senior Citizens office, Nutrition Site, or at the City Hall reception area.
